Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion Instead Of Otrivin

my friend has very congested nasal passages, and he cannot breathe through his nose unless he uses otrivine, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I understand that otrivine can make the mucus worse, so are there alternatives? He has had two episodes of extended cocaine use (2-3 months each time) (not partying, but self medication for not coping with life) over the last ten years. His nose appears normal shape. He sometimes has blood in his handkerchief if he blows his nose a lot.

What to do? Does it seem that his septum is merely irritated?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Yes otrivin should not be used more than a month. First of all cocaine should be stopped it can cause severe damage to nasal mucosa.
He should use Flixonase nasal spray. It contains fluticasone dipropionate which can be used for long period of time. He should also do Steam inhalation. It is very good treatment of nasal congestion & is harmless. Steam inhalation should be done 2-3 times a day & precaution should be followed to remain indoors after steam inhalation.

Refer to a physician if problem persists
Hope this information helps
