Suggest Treatment For Mild Colitis And Bloating

Recently I was diagnosed with mild colitis and prescribed Linzess by my doctor to help my irritable bowel, but I m feeling bloated and not sure I am having the right bowel movement. Can I take an otc laxative to see if that will help my bloating? Thank you Joanna

Hi,

Effects of Linzess on constipation, bloating or other abdominal symptoms may be visible generally within a week or so, hence you are advised to wait for such time, if your symptoms are not severe or devastating. However, laxatives are generally are contra- indicated along with Linzess. Concomitant use of Dulcolax may cause ulcers in colon or colitis (or even aggravate existing colitis symptoms). Similarly use of Linzess with Miralax may cause dehydration and electrolyte abnormality.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
