Suggest Treatment For Lower Abdominal Pain, Nausea And Dizziness During Periods

Hello. Ever since my first period I have had HORRIBLE cramps. I suffer on the first day of my cycle every month with severe lower abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness. I get hot but break out into cold sweats leaving my skin clammy. Sometimes I shake uncontrollably. This caused me to miss one day of school every month unless my period came on the weekend or a holiday. I can not stand up straight for more than a few seconds without beginning to feel like I will pass out. I completely lose my appetite as well. I take ibuprofen (Advil or aleve) but I have to take more than the recommended amount which I know isn t good for me. I also am either constipated or have really loose bowel movements, not quite diarhea. Some instances after I take the ibuprofen, I vomit. If I take just the recommended dose of 2 pills it s like I never took any at all. My mother didn t want me on birth control for fear of messing up my reproductive organs. I will be 21 soon and I m thinking that that may be my last resort or some kind of prescription drug. Though for birth control I d rather not take pills. Also I am not sexually active, don t know if that matters. What are your opinions or advice? Could this be a health issue?

Hi,
Your symptoms suggest that you suffer from a condition called 'dysmenorrhea' or painful menstruation. There are several possible causes the most common being hormonal and familial. The cause of the pain and other symptoms like diarrhea is due to prostaglandin release during and prior to a menstrual period. You can overcome the pain and excess bleeding by using anti-prostaglandin medication like mefenamic acid. Heat application to lower abdomen also is shown to help. natural remedies are also available to solve this problem. Hope this helps.
