Suggest Treatment For Insomnia Due To Panic Attacks
Hi Doc, I feel hopeless. I cannot sleep and am having panic attacks so severe that I can barely drive to the store or leave the car once I m there. I also have what seem like flashbacks that are very realistic, voices and images of people I was close to. I feel as though I am close to not being able to function at all. Please advise and thank you for your kindness .Joanna
You have feelings of hopelessness, poor sleep and panic attacks. Such symptoms are so severe that you can barely drive. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for treatment as these symptoms are causing significant impairment. Medicines like Propranolol, Etizolam, Clonazepam etc are commonly useful in severe panic attacks. SSRIs like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline etc help to reduce the frequency of attacks. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs. Relaxation exercises, behaviour therapy, progressive muscle relaxation therapy, breathing therapy are other non medicinal methods of treatment with excellent results.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
