Suggest Treatment For High Fever Unresolved On Antibiotics

Hi Doctor, my father is suffering from high fever for the last 4 days. He was advised to take antibiotics as the doctor said it to be a viral fever. But the fever is coming back at a specific time everyday. What should I do? He has been on antibiotics for 3 days.

hi there, if you are living in the african continent or in the indian subcontinent then you should get a QBC test for malaria done on your father. Viral fever also tends to be cyclical and lasts for 3-5 days. So continue the antibiotics, if the QBC for malaria comes to be negative.otherwise get him started on antimalarials with the prescription of a physician.

General & Family Physician Dr. Nishad BN's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query.Usually viral fever may last 1 week.Antibiotics are advised only if secondary bacterial infection intervenes. As you are having fever for 4 days a Blood routine including platelet counts and urine routine should be carried out.If no clues from that then temperature of fever should be recorded 4 hourly to get graphical characteristic which will give clue for typhoid or malaria and a test for those can be taken and managed properly if positive.Keep yourself well hydrated.Take warm soups porridge and lemon tea.Hope this may help you.
Let me know if you have any further query.
