Hi there and thanks for sharing your question with HCM.
It is worrisome that you have
high blood pressure at the age of 25. There are many causes for high blood pressure. A few questions to consider:
1. Do you have family history of blood pressure?
2. Are you overweight?
3. Do you have any existing medical conditions?
You need to get to a doctor soon as unchecked and untreated high blood pressure damages the eyes, heart, kidneys and blood vessels. It is also an independent risk factor for suffering a stroke and getting a
heart attack.
You also need to find out what is causing this at such a young age. The doctor needs to check your blood (
cholesterol levels), urine (protein for renal impairment) and do an ECG. If required, you may have to undergo
echocardiography for your heart (to rule out coarctation of the aorta) and doppler
ultrasound of the kidneys (to rule out narrowing of the arteries to the kidneys).
What you could do after seeing your doctor is purchase a reliable blood pressure meter and start recording your blood pressure daily as well as your pulse. Consider your diet - if there is too much sodium and stimulants, you need to eat clean. If you are overweight, you need to start losing the excess weight. You need to take the anti
hypertensive medication that you are started on regularly.
64 beats is acceptable for someone resting in bed. Normal
heart rate range is 60-100 beats per minute. The better your endurance level, the lower your resting heart rate.
Hope this helps. Thank you.
