Ive had heavy periods in the past, abnormal paps which turned out to be cysts on my fallopian tubes so I got the mirena to control heavy periods and for hormone therapy. I have had it for a bout 1 1/2yrs solved most of my heavy bleeding until 1 month ago . started bleeding after sex and throughout day. today I have had cramping and blood clots all day. they are huge, I weighed it (just 2 of them)and kept a sample in case I had to go to er. each clot weighs approx. 1 oz, I have lost around 10-12 clots that size today and its not slowing down much. Normal or ?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Heavy prolonged bleeding can be due to fibroids, endometrial hyperplasia or carcinoma, dysfunctional uterine bleeding or cervical cancer. I would suggest you to undergo a colposcopy to rule out any cervical cancer, and an endometrial biopsy to rule out hyperplasia, carcinoma and dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Ultrasound should be done to rule out any pathology in the uterus and ovaries. In the meantime, you can take tranexemic acid to reduce the flow of bleeding. Hope you found the answer helpful.
