I have a large hiatal hernia & class D esophagitis. I have been on Prilosec 80 mg daily for first 2 months & 3 months @ 40mg daily. My heartburn & acid reflux seem to be getting more intense instead of better. I am miserable. Please help. It doesn t seem to make any difference what I eat or how much or when.

Hello,

A hiatal hernia may lead to abnormal leakage of stomach contents into oesophagus lead to acid reflux.

It is treated with fundoplication surgery. Before undergone surgery, you have to check for Barrett oesophagus and Helicobacter pylori infection.

Continue proton pump inhibitors then consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
