Suggest Treatment For Heart Palpitations

I used to smoke weed everyday for about 2 years straight with no problems then i tried that k-2 shit and i started freaking out and my heart was racing so fast i couldent control it. after about 8 months of not doing anything (because i scared myself so bad i tried weed again and felt exactly how i did when i smoke that k-2 stuff my heart was racing and i felt like i was going to have a heart attack. My arms were going numb and then i went for a walk which calmed me a bit (after pacing up and down my friends driveway taking in deep breaths with my heart on my chest for a half hour), but the thought juts kept creeping in my mind about my heart and i couldent get rid of it. This now happens even when im sober ( I really think that i have just scared myself so bad and that its all psychological) but any advice would be great!

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Weed or any such drug act on our sympathetic system and increase our heart rate. This could sometimes turn into a abnormality called supraventricular tachycardia which can sometimes cause problem.

Now when you are sober and still having palpitations, this could be just due to the anxiety or withdrawal symptom. But you still should have your cardiac evaluation done in form of ECG and 2D Echo. I'll advice you to keep yourself away from these drugs and you will be fine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sameer Maheshwari
