Suggest Treatment For Dizziness And Headache After Head Injury

This morning I was bending down and came back up pretty fast and hit the back, right side of my head rather hard on the corner of a TV. I feel as if I saw stars for a bit. I don t have a bump there, but do have a minor headache and have been feeling a tad dizzy and foggy throughout the day. Should I seek medical attention, or am I being paranoid?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Head injury can cause headache and vertigo for sometime. Important point is to differentiate between dangerous and mild head injury. Because dangerous injury needs medical attention on emergent basis. Mild injury can be managed at home with rest and painkillers.

You have to observe few signs of dangerous head injury
; vomiting
; loss of consciousness for more than 5 minutes or decreasing consciousness
; bleed through nose/ear/throat
; fits
; persistent headache not responding to painkillers
; vertigo with confusion, altered behaviour
If you are having any of above symptom, you should consult doctor as soon as possible. The doctor might advise CT head to rule out fracture or brain bleed. Further treatment will be decided according to CT report.

As you are having dizziness only, you and your family should observe for confusion/altered behaviour as it suggests urgent medical attention. If there is no above sign and your dizziness is decreasing or responding to medication, you can wait and observe at home. For relief, you can follow few tips

; take rest
; avoid pressure at injury site
; apply icepacks at injury site
; you can take Diclofenac sodium after proper prescription
; maintain adequate hydration
; you can check BP to rule out hypotension (SBP
Hope it will help you. Still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Thanks. Take care.
