Hello
As you mentioned that you are an old patient of asthma , associated with phlegm ( mucus) .
However you are taking treatment from very long time .
But please get in blood for C B C, E S R ( if very high > 70-80 mm 1st hour get in an Xray chest to rule out tuberculosis ) . If every test including sputum test normal then following measure will help you.
Avoid , dust , mite , pollen , sudden fall & rise of temperature, hay , fodder, fine dusting powder, mold .
As you mentioned that you got some relief with steam inhalation , this clearly indicates that there is bronchoconstriction ( main cause of cough ).
When such patient visit with these symptoms I advise them following treatment.
Tablet montelekast+ bambuterole twice in day .
Tablet levofloxacin 750 mg / day for 10 days .
Tablet serratiopeptidase 20 mg thrice in day for one to two months .
In my opinion this treatment may help you. Since this is a prescription drug so please consult your doctor.
Hope this information will help you.
Good luck.
Hot coffee and steam inhalation are useful for you.
