Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation

Hi I am Rick I have delt with constipation for years, I have had two Colon exams in the last seven years they neither found any problems. When I pass a stool it feels as if it drags (hangs up) on one sire if the rectum and there fore makes it difficult to pass. This has gone on for some time and I think is affecting the rest of my body. Tired, headaches, some time thin I smell. Do you have some ideas what might help? Thanks Rick

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Chronic constipation could be due to irritable bowel syndrome, sedentary lifestyle, enteropathy, inadequate fiber in diet as colonoscopy was normal.
The more the bowel is not emptied the more difficult it becomes to evacuate as the liquid content of the stool is reabsorbed.
The stool becomes hard and this hard stuff goes on accumulating in the gut produce symptoms.

I would suggest to consult the gastroenterologist and undergo stool examination, ultrasound scan of abdomen, colonic transit studies, defecography.

Following advice will help you:
Glycerine enema for immediate relief
Syrup Lactulose: can be taken up to 30 ml twice a day
Tab bisacodyl at bedtime can useful
Bulking agents like isabgol husk

Lifestyle changes:
Drink one spoon of honey in warm water daily in morning before the bowel movement.
Eat high fiber diet. Every meal should have salads and fruits with skin.
Drink 2-4 litre water daily
Daily evening and morning walk for 30-45 minutes to regularize the bowel movement.
Take more fruits and green leafy vegetables in the diet.
Set Up regular time for the motion.
Hope this may help you
