Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had an MRI on a abdominal cyst. The doctor couldn t tell if it was on the ovary from a CT scan and ultrasound. MRI findings determined it was not on the ovary. The doctor said it was likely a cyst formed from scar tissue. All tests indicated a thin wall, clear inside. Blood work looked good as well. The cyst is 7-8 cm on my right side. I have not had any pain except for a pain which I thought was hip related. However, today I am having a lot of pain in my abdomen, but I can also feel it in my right buttocks. Out of 10, I would consider my pain a 6 and it has been all day. I was going to wait and schedule an appointment Monday morning so I just took some Aleve. Not sure if I should go to the ER.
Ovarian cysts are common and may be single, multiple or may occur as a part of polycystic ovarian syndrome. Also, hormonal imbalance may cause ovarian cysts which are which are in most cases small and asymptomatic but sometimes may cause symptoms and require specific treatment especially if cysts are larger than 5 cms, bleeding cysts, torsion-ed or ruptured. The surgical treatment is required.
Also, if there is polycystic syndrome as underlying cause then hormonal therapy is indicated. Pain is usually placed deep in pelvis on affected side and may be associated with nausea and fever. To diagnose exact type it you should do ultrasound and vaginal examination.
