Suggest Treatment For Amenorrhea

I have a very high prolactin level...I had an MRI done two weeks ago and I was told I have a very small benign tumor on my pituitary gland. I have no had a period in almost a year. My endocrinologist prescribed cabergoline .5 mg twice a week...I was wondering when my periods may return?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Hormones responsible for menstruation are released when they get signals from pituitary gland for their release. As you are having a a benign tumor in your pituitary gland itself, these hormone producing signals might be disturbed causing absent menstruation.

I would recommend that you continue the medication prescribed by the endocrinologist and as the tumor will resolve/disappear, normal hormone secretions will start making your menstrual cycles regular, too.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
