Suggest Treatment For A Dark Patch On The Leg

I have a small, dark patch on the shin of my right leg. It s raised and itches if it gets dry. Other than that, there s no pain. It happens to be I the same leg that I have edema (foot swells) which is also the leg I had DVT in over 8 years ago. I can see darker veins around the area of the patch of raised skin. Any idea what this could be? Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a varicose vein. I suggest using a cream for local application such as Heparin gel. I also recommend using an anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation and swelling. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to do an ultrasound of the leg for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
