My 9 year old daughter came home from school with a large dark bruise on her left hip , almost directly on the bone. She doesn t remember hitting it or getting hit. Could this be more serious than just a typical kids bruise? Thanks for any help. Kristi Travers Hill
I can understand your concern dark bruise on the hip of your 9 year old daughter.
It is quite common in children to get bruises after injury and kids are not able to remember any sort of injury on the same. Generally bruises are formed due to extravasation of blood skin from the skin blood vessels.
I suggest you to wait for around 48 hours. If the lesion subsides then is nothing to be worried but if this increase in size then it is better to consult a dermatologist for best guidance.
For the time being you guide your daughter to not scratch the area and can apply a mild steroid containing fluticasone in it. Let her wear lose cotton clothes which are not in direct contact with the skin as these can irritate the skin.
Take care.
