General & Family Physician 's  Response
It is used for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections, chickenpox, and herpes zoster.
Why are you taking aciclovir ???
Dose depends upon indication.
For primary herpes simplex infections & chickenpox, dose is 200 mg 5 times per day for 5-10 days.
For herpes zoster (shingles), dose is 800 mg 5 times per day for 7-10 days.
Its common side effects are rashes, fever, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hepatitis, angioedema, lethargy, somnolence, confusion, hallucinations, agitation, tremors, psychosis, convulsions, nephrotoxicity and hair loss.
Advice
1.     Take acyclovir after meal
2.     Drink 4 – 5 liters of water to prevent side effects on kidney
3.     Use under medical supervision only and in proper dose. Inadequate dose can cause resistance
Thanks
