Suggest Substitute For Methotrexate In Case Of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Doctor,

I am 47 yr old and Suffering from rheumatoid artheritis since 18 years. I was taking Salazopyrin 500mg 1-0-1, and methotrexate and folic acid once in a wk and pain was completely under control without any pain killer. But due to severe nausea I was forced to stop methotrexate in december 2009 and switched to Ayurvedic treatment which still continues, but this has not helped me much and these days I am suffering from severe pain from all my joints . I take Diclofenac 50mg everyday.



Doctor, please advice me if there is any other subtitute for Methotrexate so that I continue the same old treatment.

Ayurvedic treatment hardly works in rheumatoid and taking Diclofenac daily is not advised. As it can cause severe kidney damage and causes many other complications.
I would suggest you to restart saaz 1000 mg daily. Also I would suggest you to add HCQ tablet daily. If methotrxate is causing vomitting then I would suggest you to start a low dose methotrxte.
If pain is very severe in any joint then small surgery can be done .
Steroid can also be tried for short time.
