Suggest Remedy For Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding

I had a medical abortion on September 19, 2014. I went for my 2 week follow up and and the nurse said that the procedure was a success but that I would probably bleed for another couple of weeks due to scare tissue inside of my uterus. I started my monthly oral birth control that week and have been taking it since. Its is now December 3rd, 2014 and i have NOT stopped bleeding! Some days its light and I dont need a tampon but most days I need at least a small tampon to protect my underwear. Once and a while I get a very small blood clot here and there. Then there are days where its a muddish brown and red and what looks like scrappings. It is quite a nuccense because i know this is not normal. It also effects my sex life because there is more often than not a distinct odor of dry dirty blood.... PLEASE HELP!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

There are many medical conditions that may cause abnormal uterine bleeding. With negative pregnancy tests, causes linked to pregnancy can be eliminated.Other possible causes of your symptoms at your age could be:

-Premenopause

-Hormonal imbalances

-Medical conditions such as uterine masses (fibroids, cancer)

-Infectious causes though rare given your description of symptoms.

I will advise you see a Gynecologist for examination and work-ups. A pelvic ultrasound will be a very important test to evaluate your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
