Suggest Remedy For Persistent Rash And Itching In Toddler Due To Diaper

My 2 year old seems to have a persistant rash and itching in his genital area....i think its diaper rash because he is not potty trained completely so i still use the pull ups....but it is really itching him and i can t get him to stop scratching. I have been using the Destin cream and the Caldesene powder to help with it.....can i do more? or something different

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

What is the colour of rash? Is it exactly over the diaper area, or at the inguinal creases? True diaper rash should respond to emollient creams (like Destin) applied 2-3 times a day for 5 days. Also, we have to keep the area as clean and dry as possible. If no response , we will have to rule out other causes like Candidiasis. Kindly show to your doctor or get back to us with a picture of the lesion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
