I am experiencing idiopathic sudden hearing loss in my left ear for 3 1/2 weeks. Profound loss of hearing, can only hear crackling sounds but not voices or words. 11 days of tapering prendisone tabs staring first day of loss, followed by injections of cortisone directly into ear. Audiology test confirmed severe loss I all ranges. Some hearing came back two days after first ear injection since I could hear words, but not normally, after second injection it went back to only sounds no words, but abnormal. Scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. My question is twofold, 1. Is this the right treatment, and 2 . What is the prognosis for recovering any hearing. I am a 75 year old female and this is the second time in two years. After the first episode I recovered some hearing but not 100%.
