Suggest Remedy For Head Injury

My 12 year old daughter was pushed by a silly friend in their bathroom and fell in a bathtub and hit the back of her head on the soap tray on March 19. We found out about this fall on April 3rd while our daughter was playing soccer and was hit in the head by the soccer ball. She had an MRI the night of April 3rd and it was normal. The blurred vision and headaches she was having the 2 weeks after falling in the tub are now subsiding. I did feel the back of her head where she thinks she hit that soap tray and it is round and indented, does not hurt her to touch and feels bumpy around half of the edge of the circular indent. I am not certain if the bit larger than a quarter sized indent was there before the fall. Would the MRI have shown this indent in the skull? Can I assume since the MRI was normal that this dent is no threat? Will the dent go away if it was from the fall?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. It is good that your daughter had mild head injury.
Regarding dent, it could be due to head injury or it was present before as a normal dent formed during skull development. In either case, it is harmless. It usually does not disappear in either case. It is present on posterior part of skull covered in hairs, so no cosmetic concern. There is no bleed or fracture, ruled out by imaging. So do not worry.

Now coming to skull dent picking up by MRI, the answer is - MRI is not a good investigation to look for bone pathology. The right investigation is CT head. But it is not needed in your daughter, as she is fine and her brain is normal.

Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
