Suggest Remedy For Ear Ailments

I have an ongoing condition in my right ear when I wake up in the middle of the night it kills me to touch the outside of it.....Also, sometimes during the day I can ache deep inside my ear and it will hurt for me to turn my head to the right as if something is pulling me back to the right side. I have experienced ringing off and on in both ears but the pain is worse on the right side....I had an MRI a yr. ago--came back normal...and a ct scan on my sinus came back normal----but what is happening isn t normal--I have also experienced some bad headaches recently also...any advice????

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

All your history of severe pain on touching outside of the right ear, headache indicate towards the most probable diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all, consult an ENT Surgeon or a Neurosurgeon for clinical evaluation and discuss with them the said possibility.

You need MRA that is MRI Angiography of the cranial nerves to see for any vascular loop around the nerves to the ears.
Also there is a possibility of raised blood pressure instigating the pain caused by pulsation of the artery around the nerve.

Medications like Amitriptyline or Gabapentin may help you.
Avoid stress and anxiety, anything that instigates or enhance the problems.
Medications or surgery as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
