Suggest Remedy For Constant Burps With Stomach Ache

for about six weeks now, my stomach feels as though it is full of air. I am constantly burping all the time and I am always in pain. I have been taking antacids, gas relief, and peptobismol. These things seem to dull the pain, but nothing seems to really work. The pain is not getting any better and I am desperate to find something that works.

Hi there,

The symptoms you are describing are typically due to GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Over the counter antacids may help a bit, but I would recommend trying an acid reducing medication such as prilosec, which you can get over the counter.

If this medication doesn't help, and you continue to have problems, I'd recommend seeing a gastroenterologist and have him evaluate you for a hiatal hernia - this is when the lower esophageal sphincter doesn't work very well and acid from the stomach refluxes back into the esophagus. This can be diagnosed with an x-ray while drinking contrast known as an upper GI. The treatment is usually surgical.

I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
