Suggest Remedy For Chronic Constipation And Abdominal Pain
my 11yr old has had chronic constipation since she was 3yrs old and suffers from abdominal pain, last week she tells me that a week b4 that she had a bowel movement and saw a foot long worm but got scared and flushed. She didn't tell me til a week later. She saw her Dr and they ordered stool cultures but what do you think it can be?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history 11 year old daughter and understood your concerns. Since there is constipation since she was 3 years old, it is possibly the fecolith that she notices. There are no foot long worms known to occur in humans except for the tapeworm, but it has segmentation. The best way is to send the sample of stool for three consecutive days to see for ova and cyst. She has to observe every stool. Give her medicines active against worms and to see for worms. Give stool softener and manage constipation y altering the foods and giving high fiber diet. If there is some positive finding in the stool, specific treatment will be given by her Doctor. Upper GI endoscopy can sometimes show worms attached in duodenum and colonoscopy after preparation may be needed to see for the cause of constipation by taking a biopsy to see for any neurological cause.
