Suggest Remedies For Swelling Of Throat Due To Tonsillitis

Hi, I have tonsilltis and have been on antibiotics for 24 hours. My fever has gone down but my throat feels more swollen now than it did yesterday. I'm finding it quite difficult to breathe normally and I have a constant 'gagging' feeling. My throat is so tight that when I swallowed my tablet earlier I nearly choked. Should I go back to the Doctor? (I get tonsillitis about once every three months and I have never felt my throat this tight)

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems to be severe throat infection leading to the symptoms swollen tonsils and when the swelling is in excess as well as throat is swollen there can be choking and difficulty in breathing..
You should immediately consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and they can give you injectable antibiotics, painkillers and steroids for faster reduction in swelling and infection..
Intravenous fluids can also be advised.
Once the condition improves you can be switched to oral antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers and warm saline gargles and steam inhalations.
In case if the condition recurs frequently Tonsillectomy that is surgical removal of tonsils can be advised..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
