Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,

The most common cause for itching and redness is eye allergy. But it does not cause profuse watering or mucoid discharge. If your child has been rubbing the eye and has redness with watering, it could even be a pink eye or viral conjunctivitis. This being self limiting , lasting from 5-10 days, does not need anything other than good eye hygiene and lubricating eye drops such as Refresh tears eye drops, 1 drop 4 times a day. Do not use visine as it will not help much. However do consult an ophthalmologist if the symptoms persist or worsen, in the coming week.

Regards
