Suggest Remedies For High Fever, vomiting And Chapped Lips

Hi my son is 3 years old. Had strep throat last tues, been on amoxicillin since. Was in the heat this weekend...daycare called today, had 101.5 temp, and vomiting. Lips are chapped. Was told may be heat exhaustion and to give pedialtye. What should I watch for before I need to take him to ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello!
I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
In the way you described it seems to me that his throat infection is not being cured probably the antibiotic isn't working because there is no reason to have fever after being 6 days on antibiotic.

Because of high temperature your son is dehydrated and that's why your doctor prescribe you pedialtye to treat dehydration.Chapped lips are a sign of a important dehydration.

If your son experience any of this symptoms :
-Extreme thirst,Extreme fussiness or sleepiness,Very dry mouth, skin and mucous membranes,Little or no urination — any urine that is produced will be darker than normal take him immediately to ER.
The thing that concern me most is the fever that continue even why he is taking antibiotic.

If his temperature continue to stay high I suggest to take him to hospital.

Hope I was able to help.
Wish a quick and complete recovery to your son.
