Hi, I have just finished breast feeding my 6 month old and I am using opks to see when I will ovulate. The strip is not detecting any leutinizing hormone at all. Not even a trace. Is this normal.I understood that there would always be low levels of lh present.
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. If you are using the urine ovulation predictor test kit, please do not use the early morning sample. Do not drink any liquids for two hours before the test as the urine can become diluted with more fluid. Test the sample within 10 minutes. Please remember, only serum tests can detect minor quantities of the hormone. The urine OPKs are 99 percent accurate in predicting LH surge. Another way to test for the ovulation, which is even more reliable if performed accurately is the recording of the basal body temperature from day one of the menstrual cycle. Ovulation can be detected as a rise in the temperature and this rise persists if conception occurs. Hope this helps.
