Suggest Methods To Bring Down Blood Pressure?

my husband's blood pressure reading of 173 over 110. It has been close to that for quite some time now.

he has never smoked and he drinks appx 4 sodas per day.

he does not drink alcohol...never done drugs of any kind.

He has been unemployed for several months - so he is not exerting a lot of energy.

He is physically fit ...

57 years old.. 5'10" and 158 lbs.

his avg . heart rate is 46 - 49.

he once took Atenolol ?? mg?

took it for appx 2 years

it made him very unsteady/dizzy on the job so he quit taking it 10 years ago..

He is a Journeyman- Commercial Carpenter.

What can I do to help him bring his BP down ?? !! ??

With his blood pressure at that level, he should see his doctor and get started on medication. Reducing his salt intake might help some, but with the BP that high, he really needs medical treatment. I am also concerned about his heart rate. It is quite low. Atenolol can lower the rate, but he's been off it for years, and it is a drug he should avoid in the future. There are many different types of blood pressure meds that may not have the side effects he had with atenolol. I strongly recommend that he get a complete checkup with his doctor, get started on medicine for the blood pressure, and figure out what's causing the slow heart rate. Hope this helps.
