Hello,
As per the diagnosis told by you, the standard treatment guidelines include most commonly, DEC in addition to
Ivermectin or
Albendazole
These drugs work to get rid of the larval worm, to inhibit the reproduction of the adult worm, or to kill the adult worm.
Florocid injection as used is also fine for an acute phase since it subsides the pain and is effective against its acute phase. Florocid Injection is a combination of two drugs:
Sodium Fluoride and
Procaine which help treat
filariasis. Sodium Fluoride kills the worms that cause filariasis. Procaine works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to the brain which decreases the sensation of pain.
Along with that, the following measures could be of great help:
1. Wash and dry affected area twice daily
2. Elevate lower extremities at night
3. Exercise and move affected limb regularly
4. Comfortable shoes
5. combination of manual lymph drainage, massage, compression wrapping, pneumatic pumping.
6. Proper
skin care by moisturizers and lotions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
