Hi , a single episode of uncomplicated UTI is effectively treated with 7 days if nitrofurantoin. No need of bladder cleansing as bladder has its own natural methods to stay out of infection. in order to prevent UTI at this age, get his prostate evaluated and if he has any incontinence, I suggest consult a urologist . meds can be oxybutynin . hope this helps.
