Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Unprotected oral sex is not without any risks and moreover protected vaginal sex is not 100% protective against Herpes and Hpv because a condom covers only a portion of shaft of the penis and therefore may leave a lot of infected area e.g base of shaft and pubic skin, exposed for transmission of infection during sexual intercourse.
Unprotected Oral sex is a risk factor for transmission mainly for
herpes simplex virus; nevertheless
gonorrhea, chlamydia are also known to infect throat (Pharyngeal gonorrhea).
STD's may present shortly after infection e.g gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes whereas others like syphilis, warts and molluscum, HIV may present weeks or even months after they are acquired and may be clinically silent.
Therefore it is important to test for STD's at appropriate intervals to rule out the possibility.
Herpes can be tested with a
blood test earliest at 2 weeks of acquisition. It will
antibodies against the virus and thus either confirm or rule it out.
Screening for HIV and syphilis can be done earliest at 1 months; this is to be repeated at 3 months for a conclusive result.
Hepatitis B can be transmitted sexually and can be screened for earliest at 2-3 weeks of sexual contact.
Hep C is not considered to be an STD and it is extremely rare to acquire it sexually, therefore testing for it is not routine.
I suggest that you visit a sexual health specialist for
counselling and testing as deemed appropriate.
