Yes, Typhoid vaccines lose effectiveness after some years. So you need a booster dose if you are no longer protected. You must ask your doctor when you need another shot of vaccine. Typhoid patients become carriers of the disease even when they are cured. If the symptoms are no longer present, it doesn't mean typhoid has been completely cured unless stool examination reveals so. Typhoid can recur if precautions are not taken. Practice good personal hygiene as typhoid spreads through contaminated food and water. Make sure your son washes hands with soap and water frequently after using the toilet and before eating to prevent typhoid from recurring.

You can give chicken soup but do not add croutons and cream or butter as digestion becomes weak after typhoid. Start with liquids as solid foods are not tolerated well in the beginning. You can give mixed vegetable soups, fruit juices freshly squeezed at home in a hygienic manner like sweet lime juice or musambi juice, orange juice, pomegranate juice etc. Coconut water, barley water, glucose water, lemon water with sugar, buttermilk. Do not give milk or milk based beverages until fever and diarrhoea subsides.

Once liquids are well-tolerated and abdominal symptoms like vomiting and diarrhoea are under control, you can begin with semi solid foods which are simple and easily digestible like khichri (rice and pulse combination), sago or sabudana, arrowroot, semolina as upma or pudding. Do not give spices, oily and fried foods. Give small frequent meals to aid digestion and avoid harsh fibrous fruits and vegetables. Do not give any raw food. Vegetables in the form of soups can be given. Boiled rice, potatoes and ripe bananas can be given for providing energy.

Prepare all foods with utmost hygiene and avoid any outside food completely. Get yourself and your family vaccinated to protect infection from spreading to other family members.
