Suggest Cause For Trimethylaminuria Or Fishy Urine Odour In Men

My husband has gone to a doctor twice about the very bad fishy smell in his urine when we have sex my vaginas smell that way too and I know it is not me. What could be causing this horrible smell. They told him first time he had a UT I and second time some kind of infection only women carry. But when I was checked I was fine. So what could be the problem this time b/c he wants to have sex but the smell is killing me. Help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.
I think it is recurrent urinary infection.
Fishy smell is mainly due to ammonia form protein breakdown.

Also note the other causes of fishy smell in urine:
UTI
Stone in urinary tract
Severe dehydration
Prostatitis
Excessive consumption of coffee and aspergilus food
Liver disease
Chronic use of antibiotics like amoxicillin

You shold consult the doctor and do the following tests:
Urine: routine, microscopic and culture
Blood: LFT, CBC, ESR, Urea, creatinine
Abdominal USG

Doctor may provide following advice:
Drink plenty of waters
Take fruits like orange and cranberry
Tablet septra three times a day for 3 days
If not responds ceftazidime can be given
Repeat culture of urine after 10 days

Avoid food that contain high sulfur: soyabean, cauliflower, peas, egg, liver, sea food

Hope this may help you
Best regards
