What are the causes of foaming mouth while sleeping in adults, an 85 year old man with high blood pressure, borderline diabetes and asthma. Should we be alarmed and concerned?

Thank you for your kind consideration regarding this inquiry.

Hi,
Foaming mouth is usually a sign of pulmonary edema secondary to left ventricular failure. The left ventricle is unable to pump like usual, leading to back pressure.
It should be associated with difficulty in breathing.
Diabetes associated could increase the risk of infection. If the patient is on steroid treatment with asthma, increase risk of infection is present again.
You need to meet your doctor to start the patient on ionotropic drugs like digoxin to improve the patient. Secondarily pulmonary evaluation with x-ray is needed to check the amount of edema.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
