Sudden Sharp Leg Pain, Red And Swollen With Fever, Headaches, Muscle Pain. Dengue Or Malaria ?
Hi I am having trouble distinguishing the difference between dengue and maleria. If a child complains of a sudden sharp peg pain and you notice it is red and swollen but nothing happened for a few days and then the child began to suffer fever, headaches, muslce pain and exhaustion, which is the more likelt cause maleria or dengue?
Hi, welcome to HCM. Malaria typically presents with fever and chills and dengue presents with fever, rash and joint pain. I am suspecting dengue in this case as there is typical fever and body pain suggestive of viral fever. Infection needs to be confirmed by blood test. For dengue, tests which can be done are NS1 antigen, IgM and IgG antibodies. For malaria, peripheral blood smear microscopy will help in diagnosis.
Thanks.
