Stopped Root Canal Treatment By Temporary Filling Due To Severe Pain And Infection. Painful Tooth When Put Pressure. Help
Hello. I have had two sessions of root canal treatment on a tooth that started to cause me a lot of pain; however my second session was stopped after it became too painful for my dentist to carry on. She said she would put a temp filling in until the infection has gone and then carry out the last part next time. My tooth doesn't hurt unless I apply pressure on it (the exact same pain I felt when she had to end the session) so I'm worried it'll need extracting or something considering she has taken the nerve out but I still feel pain. My next appointment is tomorrow and I just can't sleep. I really am scared of the dentist and I'd love some advice before my appointment. Thank you!
Pain can be due to some pulp tissue left in the canal a thorough debridement of the canal is required for which you require a next sitting. Take a course of analgesic before the visit. If the tooth can be saved by root canal treatment there is no need to extract it. Take a complete course of antibiotics as prescribed by your Dentist.
Hi Welcome to HCM Pain in root canal treatment can be due to necrotic tissue. But if pain is present while applying pressure than its because the tooth is hollow & pressure is transmitted to gingiva. Its better to avoid eating from that side till treatment is completed. Its better to take analgesic & antibiotic if pain persists. Consult your dentist for further opinion.
Welcome in the HCM forum. As you already had two appointments with your dentist carrying out your RCT treatment procedure, there is remote possibility that some infected pulp tissue is still left inside your tooth root canal, unless your dentist is too much careless or is not a qualified endodontist to do that treatment. But the symptoms you have described that you are feeling pain when giving pressure on it, that indicates some amount of infection is present around you root apex, which is called endoodntic flare up, and it is a common symptom after root canal cleaning. The infected debris from root canal is sometimes pushed to the root apex area and leading to a localized infection. Your dentist should prescribed some antibiotics to relieve from that symptoms. You have not mentioned whether you have been prescribed with antibiotics. If you are taking some antibiotics the symptom will disappear soon and you can continue your RCT procedure without any problem. Hope you will get well soon.
Hi Welcome to HCM forum your tooth seems very sensitive, this pain is due to infected pulp which is vital. As your tooth will be debrided completely, your pain will go off. You can take pain killer for pain relief. If the pain increases as your tooth comes in contact with the antagonist tooth, then consult your dentist for occlusal clearance (trimming of tooth from top). Wishing you recovery soon. Take care
