I was experiencing pain in my left hip, so I was sent for an xray by my GP. At the hospital the two radiology nurses were really shocked to see a foreign object in my right thigh (not the sore leg). They said it looked like a needle and asked if I d ever had any accidents. I told them I hadn t. I phoned my family when I got home and my parents and older siblings did not recollect any accidents involving me and sewing needles. I had an appendectomy 10 months ago and I was wondering if this needle could have been left inside me. Is it possible for a needle to travel to my upper thigh? I d been ringing my GP about the results for a month but the hospital hadn t forwarded it, despite the fact that they told me it would take 5 working days, or 10 max. When I was attending the Diabetes clinic yesterday (I have type 1), I mentioned it to the doctor who was able to retrieve the xrays on her computer. She was really shocked and said that it looked like a sewing needle. I told her about the appendectomy and she said that may have been left inside me. She is a junior doctor so she got the consultant to come and have a look. He said it couldn t be from the surgery as it was too far away from that site. Both of these doctors are medical doctors, however, not surgeons. He seemed more worried about the hospital s liability, which I have no interest in. I just want the truth. He then said that it couldn t be a needle because it would be hurting me. Today I got a phone call from my GP and he seemed certain that it is a sewing needle. He told me to see him next week and said that I d probably be referred to the hospital. I feel that this needle is from the surgery, I have never had any accidents with needles and I ve never partook in sewing. I don t understand this. Do you think it is possible that a surgery needle left inside me since my appendectomy 10 months ago could have travelled into my right thigh? It s the upper right thigh and it s to the left hand side. Please give me your opinion
