Sore Throat With Swollen Uvula

My husband has been complaining of a sore throat for 3 days. He woke up this morning to his Uvula swollen 5 times the normal size and the bottom of it was split like a fork? He says it really hurts. What is it and how do I treat it? My husband is 30 today and in good health.
