Hi
As you told your child is having dry cough you can give cough syrup with antitussive drugs like dextromethorphan. But before prescribing medication your child throat and lungs should be examined to advise the proper medication for your child so consult your Pediatrician.

Hi

The choice of cough syrup depends on the cause of cough and the presence or absence of chest signs.

It will always be better if you see your doctor and get it prescribed.

Dry cough may be due to various causes like pharyngitis/ laryngitis/ allergy/ asthma etc.

- If its due to allergy, associated with running nose etc- preparations like Cetirizine syrup will do.
- If its due to an irritation from throat, preparations with dextromethorphan can help- lozenges with honey will also help. But before using dextromethorphan one has to be sure chest is clear.
- If its due to wheeze as in asthma, bronchodilators like Asthalin should be used.

Bro-zedex contains a bronchodilator and expectorant- which might not be needed if your child is not wheezing.

So please have him seen by a doctor and get appropriate medication prescribed.
Best wishes.

Hi,
Thanks for query.
as mentioned by you, your son is having dry cough.no need to give bro zedex as it has bromhexine which is a mucolytic as is given in productive cough.I suggest you to give him warm water to drink, give steam inhalation, avoid all kind of fried food and junk foods.and in case his symptoms persist get him evaluated by a pediatrician.
Your son will be fine,
God bless.
