Should We Consult A Gastroenterologist To Remove The Swallowed Quarter?

My 22 month old swallowed a quarter a week ago. We took him to the ER. The x-ray showed that the coin was behind his voice box. Six hours later when the ENT doctor could come remove it, it had progressed to his stomach. A week later it is still in his stomach. Should be seek a gastroenterogist to remove the quarter?

Hi, Thanks for selecting the forum.Seeking a gastro-enterologist is a good option but if getting hold of a pediatric gastro-enterologist is tough, just get the child to the pediatrician again and he will repeat another abdominal x-ray to confirm the position of the quarter. If it had migrated down to the large intestines, just wait for few more days it will definitely come down. But you need to keep digging the child's poop for the quarter until then. God forbid,if the quarter is still stuck above, you might need the gastro doctor's help. Wish you good luck and i hope things will be fine. Regards,Dr.Pravin Asir.
