Should The BP Medication Be Lowered After Significant Weight Loss?

I have a history of hypertension and have been taking the max dosage of my blood pressure medicine prescribed for years by my physician. Simultaneously I have also lost almost 100 pounds over the past year and a half. My blood pressures have been averaging 109/74, but I continue to take the maximum dosage of my blood pressure medication. Should my medication dosage start to be tapered as I now weigh half of what I used to weigh? I m just curious? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, I really appreciate your concern. Significant weight loss would definitely lead to reduction in blood pressure because your heart has to pump less area of body. Need for reduction of dose can not be predicted by few blood pressure measurements. So your anti-hypertensive medicine doses should be set by your physician after regular monitoring of blood pressure for certain period of time.
Hope my answer has solved your query. Take Care.
Thank you.
