Should Medications Be Taken For Blood And White Cells In The Urine ?
I recently went to the dr. for a bladder infection. They did find blood and white cells in my urine. Sent the urine sample for a culture and were not able to get an accurate read, did give me a three day prescription. Still had the symptoms went back and another culture was sent still traces of blood and white cells in urine. results came back no bacteria was found so medication cleared the infection, but still urinating frequently and lower abdomen pain. My question is being there was blood and white cells in my urine, should they have given me a prescription?
Hello! Welcome to HCM. Yes, your concern is very true. It depends on how many blood cells (RBCs) & pus cells were there in your urine routine. Normally also few pus cells are present in urine. Did you have fever? If yes, this confirms presence of infection & need for antibiotics. In my clinic, in such cases, I advise ultrasound abdomen & pelvis, X-ray KUB, renal function tests and more importantly blood sugar level. This helps to know if there is any stone causing blood & pus in urine. Treatment is done accordingly. Hope this helps. Wish you healthy life. Thanks. Regards.
