Should I Take Fucidin Or Daktacort For Skin Infection On Face?

I suffer from a skin infection on my face.
I think it is caused by a nose infection & have treated it with Fucidin in the past.
|However it keeps recurring & would prefer not to use fucidin as it is an antibiotic.
My GP gace me a prescription for Daktacort & advise me to use it when the condition flared up again
It has now done so I am wondering should I revert to Fucidin or try Daktacort

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

Fucidin is an antibiotic whereas daktacort is an antifungal. They are entirely different.

I guess you suffer from recurrent bacterial infection as you mentioned that you had used fucidin effectively in the past.

Some people (around 30%) are nasal carriers of staph aureus and are thus prone to recurrent infections around the nose.

If i was your treating doctor i would have asked you to take an oral antibiotic (from the penicillin group) for a week along with topical application of 2% mupirocin ointment to the lesion as well as just inside the nares for 5 days so as to eradicate carrier state.

take care
regards
