Should I Remove The Mass On Ovary Immediately?

post 65 year old postmenoposal women identified with a mass on the ovary

CT scan indicates no other organs effected and CA 125 is not elevated

Is it more important to get the mass and associated reproductive organs out quickly or go to an NCI clinic for more extended work-ups, pending worst case findings at surgery?

Hello and welcome,

If the mass is localised to the ovary and no other organs are involved then removing it should be easy and there is no need to fear a bad situation being found intra op.

However the urgency depends upon the findings of sonography and CT like the size of mass, presence of excresences, simple or complex and so on. Examination findings also speak the most about the level of operative difficulty. For example masses that are solid and immobile may be difficult to remove.
So discuss this with your doctor and then go for the procedure.

Hope this satisfies your query.
