Should Doctor Be Consulted For Haematoma On The Upper Thigh?

I had fell backward when my husband was getting off the ladder and it collapsed and fell on me. I fell on the paint pole and now I have a big hematoma on my upper thigh. Not sure if I should go to the doctors? I have been putting ice on it but it looks like it is getting bigger and very painful.

Hi,

You seem to have developed a progressive hematoma which if not treated early may lead on to a condition called "compartment syndrome". Due to accumulation of the blood a pressure develops in the affected muscle to the extent of compromising the its blood supply and other structures such as nerves may also be affected. In view of the above, therefore, I advise you to consult a doctor for proper clinical examination and effective treatment accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
