Should Arginex Be Taken During Pregnancy?

Hi I am 29 weeks pregnant and my baby's abdomen has not grown since the last scan a month ago also baby's head is already engaged and my cervical space is measuring 1.5 cm. my Dr has recommended a high protein diet, given me arginex f and also progesterone to take. I understand that the arginex is a vasodilator but when should it be taken ? Before my meals to help with delivery of nutrients to baby? I'm worried. Does my situation mean that I run the risk of not carrying baby to term ?

Hi,

Thanks for the query.

Unfortunately you mention the drug Arginex F. I am not sure if it is arginex or arginix as both are different. Also mention if you have been given tablets or sachets.

I will provide information regarding both.

Arginix f: Is a product claimed to increase the amniotic fluid [fluid surrounding the baby inside the uterus]. Thus is allows easy movements of the baby. Also low amniotic fluid is associated with decreased growth of the baby. So arginix helps in correcting this to some extent. The L arginine is a vasodilator so it helps to deliver nutrients to the baby and also it is a amino acid [protein] so helps build up body cells.

Arginex : This contains extract from some ingredients like oats and beet root etc and it claims to purify blood. So this is just a natural supplement to diet.

So just check the name of your product. If it contains L arginine, you may take it any time of the day. We prefer if women take it with breakfast and during tea time, as a supply of protein is usually present in lunch and dinner.

The best way to prevent fetal growth disorders is to eat a healthy diet. Include egg whites, liver, fish, sprouted beans in your diet. Also eat salads especially carrots and beet to help improve the hemoglobin. You may also add one small meal to your regular meals. For example, if you were taking breakfast, lunch and dinner, try a small meal at around 4 in the noon. Do not eat fried foods and prefer to eat home cooked food as it is more nutritious ans balanced.

Drink plenty of water to maintain hydration, preferably sleep lying on the left as much as possible to improve blood supply to the baby. With these measures and drugs you will do well.

You have also mentioned that the head is engaged and cervix 1.5 cm. This indicates that the baby has descended in the pelvis. The possibility of preterm pains cannot be ruled out. At the same time, if the head goes down, abdomen looks smaller conveying a false impression of growth restriction. Bed rest and progesterone help to prevent preterm pains. Discuss this with your doctor.
Please do not worry as these are common issues.

Take rest and eat well and things will be allright.

Hope this satisfies your query.
