Should CVS Be Done As The Nuchal Fold Measurement Was 3.1?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...hi, im 12 weeks pregnant age 41 and had an us today, one of the nuchal folds measurement was 3.1, the perinatologist is recommending cvs and im not sure what to do, should I be worried

Hi,

The nuchal fold is a screening test for Down's Syndrome .And 3.1 at 12 weeks could raise concerns.Added to that the age related risk in your case would also be high.
A CVS would confirm if you are carrying a affected baby or not.But do remember that CVS as a procedure carries a risk of 1% of causing miscarriage.
You will need to contact a fetal medicine/perinatologist for the CVS procedure who will also discuss with you the implications if the CVS result is positive.
