Shortness Of Breath, Fatigue And Chest Pains. Diagnosed With Mitral Regurgitation And Bicuspid Aortic Valve. Need Immediate Care?

I am a 24 year old female. Having issues for the past week with shortness of breath, worse when laying down, feeling weak, extremely tired, confused, chest pains that come and go with excessive belching and discomfort. I have been to the er twice in the past week. All they did was moniter my heart rate, give fluids until it went down and sent me home. I had a diagnosed mitral regurgitation and bicuspid aortic valve about 10 years ago that never gave me trouble before. I have an appointment tomorrow at 11 am with the cardiologist... But should I be okay to wait til then ? I am kinda scared as it seems to be getting worse

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Shortness of breath on lying down means left heart failure.
Weakness / tiredness may mean low output
Both mitral and aortic can be contributing.
You also seem to have an element of anxiety, added on..
You need further assessment – physical examination / Electrocardiogram and so on.
Generally, there may not a problem in waiting till tomorrow...

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

General & Family Physician Dr. Nehal Mehta's  Response
based on your description of symptoms,
you may wait till tomorrow morning unless symptoms worsen excessively, rapidly.
Bicuspid aortic valve is congenital anomaly and it may or may not cause problem in aortic valve functioning. How it progresses varies from person to person , some may need aortic valve replacement in their 40s-50s and some even late ,and some lucky people dont get any significant problem.
Mitral valve regurgitation, what intensity and what is the cause of that ? is it primarily pathology of mitral valve or it is secondary .
breathlessness on lying down may be linked to mitral regurgitation.
management with medicine like diuretics /beta blocker can provide symptomatic relief, you need to see cardiologist and some investigation also.
take care
